Veterinary and Animal Science is the science of diagnosing, treating and curing the diverse types of diseases in birds and animals. The study programs in this discipline are offered in the Veterinary and Animal Science departments – generally operated from agricultural universities in India. However, few states in India have separate university for Veterinary and Animal Science.

Tamil Nadu is fortunate for the fact that it has one veterinary university which is responsible for the development of Veterinary Science education and research in the state. The Tamil Nadu Veterinary & Animal Science University has two affiliated colleges which offer courses such as Bachelor's degree in Veterinary Science and Animal Husbandry (B.V.Sc. and A.H) and Master’s degree in Veterinary Science (M.V.Sc.) etc.
