SASTRA University

SASTRA University (also known as Shanmugha Arts, Science, Technology & Research Academy) is a deemed university established under section 3 of the UGC Act, 1956. The institute is located at Thanjavur in Tamil Nadu. The institute was originally founded in 1984 in the form of Shanmugha College of Engineering which has now been rechristened as SHANMUGHA ARTS, SCIENCE, TECHNOLOGY & RESEARCH ACADEMY (SASTRA).

SASTRA University’s campus spreads over an area of 1.5 million square feet which houses all academic departments and administrative buildings. The varsity has a total population of 8,000 students and over 600 teaching faculty. SASTRA is committed to quality teaching and research in three main fields of education – Arts, Science and Technology.

SASTRA offers various undergraduate and post graduate courses in Engineering, Science, Education, Management and Arts besides various Doctoral programmes and has state-of-the-art laboratories, a well stocked library and one of the best computing facilities.

Since its inception SASTRA has been making all efforts to achieve the sky of success in various aspects of development, be it in academic performance, co-curricular and extra curricular activities or in social services sector. The varsity’s endeavour has been reflected in the recognition that it has achieved from the National Assessment and Accreditation Council. It was awarded the deemed university status by the HRD ministry and also was accredited by the NAAC with 77% which is equivalent to FIVE STAR status. Also, SASTRA has received accreditation from M/s. Tata Consultancy ServicesLtd. with A grade (Highest) putting it in the elite company of premier institution like IIT, etc.

How to reach SASTRA

The airport at Tiruchirapalli (Trichi) is nearest to SASTRA. It is connected from chennai by Indian Airlines and Air Deccan. It is also connected to Bangalore by Kingfisher airlines.

People coming from other places can reach Bangalore / Chennai and later proceed to SASTRA as per directions given above.

Both the towns (Tiruchirapalli & Thanjavur) are well connected by road, rail and air with other parts of the country.
