Tamil Nadu has been a pioneer in offering quality legal education to the aspirants of Law. For the advancement and dissemination of knowledge of law and their role in the development of better education, the state has set up a separate university for Law namely The Tamil Nadu Dr. Ambedkar Law University. The varsity through its dedicated departments and affiliated institutes offer courses of study and research programs in the various fields of law.

The Tamil Nadu government’s outlay for Legal Education for the various schemes under Tenth Five Year Plan was Rs. 8.42 crores. The state government has been continuously trying to raise the standard of legal education in the state by granting more funds for the purpose.

The Tamil Nadu Dr. Ambedkar Law University has been organizing suitable programmes to impart basic legal knowledge for those living in the remote and rural areas. Teaching and training in various branches offered for specialization in Law are being improved from time to time in terms of course content, methodology of teaching/training, etc.
