Eligibility for MBBS course
Candidates should have passed the qualifying equivalent to 10+2 Higher Secondary Examination after a period of 12 years of study, the last two years of study comprising of Physics, Chemistry and Biology with English. A candidate for
admission to “medical course must have 60%* marks at +2 level in each of Physics, Chemistry and Biology (or Botany and Zoology taken together) and have an aggregate of 140/200 in these subjects, both at qualifying and competitive examinations and should have passed in English”. (* 60% in each and 130/200 aggregate for BC, 55% in each and 120/200 aggregate for MBC, and 40% in each and 80/200 aggregate for SC/ST candidates). All rules are subject to change as per State & University guidelines) Candidates should have passed in all subjects of the qualifying examination of the Higher Secondary Certificate Examination (Academic) conducted by the Tamil Nadu State Board or any other equivalent examination in one and the same attempt in the subjects.
Selection Procedure:
Selection will be based on merit. A preliminary written test followed by practical tests and interview for short-listed candidates will assess the candidate’s ability to undertake medical studies. The tests and interview will assess the candidate’s character, motivation and suitability for the medical profession and studies at the Christian Medical College, Vellore. During the process the aptitude of the candidate for the healing ministry, willingness to serve in remote mission hospitals and a sense of compassion for the suffering will be assessed. For the Christian students applying under the sponsored category, a written test in Bible Knowledge will be a part of the tests at Vellore. During the tests in Vellore, the candidate’s medical fitness to undergo the course will also be assessed.

Eligibility for PG Courses:
MBBS + 1 year internship + Medical Council Registration in the case of M.Ch. Neuro 5 years course.
MBBS + 1 year internship + MD/MS + Medical Council Registration, for all other higher specialty courses.
(Those after Dip NB need an additional year's inputs)
Duration of D.M./M.Ch. courses: 3years (except Neuro-surgery 5 year course directly after MBBS)
Selection Procedure
ENTRANCE TESTS
Candidates for all medical Post Graduate courses (MD /MS/ Dip NB/ Diploma) conducted by the College are ranked on the basis of a written test, practical tests and interview.
- The written test will be conducted at Bangalore, Chennai, Delhi, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Mumbai, Trivandrum and Vellore.
- The written test will be of 2 types:
- A GENERAL paper consisting of multiple choice questions drawn from all subjects taught in the undergraduate medical course.
- A SPECIAL paper consisting of multiple choice questions in the specialty for which candidate has applied and subjects allied to it e.g., the paper for E.N.T. may include questions in anatomy, physiology, biochemistry, etc., with respect to the ear, nose and throat.
NOTE:
- A candidate may write a general paper for all his/her choices (a maximum of 6 courses in 2 subjects) OR
- They may write a General paper for selection to a course in one subject and write a Special paper for selection to a course in another subject applied for.
- Candidates will not be permitted to write two Special papers.
- Candidates are not permitted to write both the General paper and the Special paper for selection to the SAME SPECIALTY.
The duration of the General and Special papers are 3 hours each (240 questions).
