Entrance Examinations - TNCET

Anna University has been authorized as the authority to select candidates for various post graduate professional Courses through Tamilnadu common entrance Test (TNCET). The courses are.

  1. Master of Business Administration (M.B.A)

  2. Master of Computer Applications (M.C.A)

  3. M.E/M.Tech./M.Arch./M.Plan. Non-Gate (Aided & Self-Supporting)

Eligibility :

M.B.A Degree Programme :

A pass in any Degree with 10+2+3/4 years pattern.
          (OR)
A pass in any degree with 10+3 (Diploma) +3 years pattern.

Candidates who have already passed the above qualifying degree course and are appearing for the final semester / year.

M.C.A Degree Programme :

A pass in any Degree with 10+2+3/4 years pattern with Mathematics at +2 level or with Mathematics/Statistics as one of the subjects at the degree level.
              (OR)
A pass in any degree with 10 +3 (Diploma) +3 years pattern with Mathematics at Diploma level or Mathematics/ Statistics as one of the subjects at the degree level.

M.E./ M.Tech./ M.Arch./ M.Plan Degree Programmes :

A pass in B.E. / B.Tech. / B.Arch. Degree Programmes
              (OR)
A pass in B.Pharm / B.Sc. (Agri/ Forestry/ Horticulture/ Fishery) Degree Programmes
             (OR)
A pass in a Master Degree Programmes in the relevant branch of Science / Arts
              (OR)

Candidates with section ‘A’ & ‘B’ certificate holders and other similar certificate holders of professional bodies (Equivalent to B.E./ B.Tech.) or societies (e.g. A.M.I.E.) with two years industrial experience in the relevant field after obtaining the similar certificate.

However the candidates are required to find out the eligible qualification for admissions to M.E./ M.Tech./ M.Arch./ M.Plan degree programmes of University Departments and affiliated Colleges of Anna University Chennai, Anna University Coimbatore, Anna University Trichy & Anna University Tirunelveli for appearing in TANCET

Acceptance of a person as a candidate for writing the Entrance Test does not confer on the person, the right of Equivalent Eligibility for admission to any of the above courses. The decision on the eligibility of the candidates for admission to a course entirely rests with the admitting authority offering the courses.
Other State candidates can appear for the entrance but the eligibility conditions will be fixed by the admitting authority / University.

Structure of the Examination :

M.B.A. Entrance Test :

The Question paper will have 5 parts with the following topics:

  • To evaluate the candidate's ability to pick out critically the data and applythe data to business decisions from given typical business situations.
  • To evaluate the skill of the candidate in answering questions based on the passages in the comprehension.
  • To evaluate the skill on solving mathematical problems at graduate level including those learnt in plus two or equivalent level.
  • To test on determining data sufficiency for answering certain questions using the given data and the knowledge of Mathematics and use of day - to - day facts.
  • To test the knowledge on written English with questions on errors in usage, grammar, punctuation and the like.

The question paper will have 100 objective type questions and the candidates have to answer all the questions in 2 hours. Each question will have five alternative answers. The evaluation pattern is that 1 mark will be awarded for each correct answer and 1/5 mark will be deducted for every wrong answer. No deduction will be made for unanswered questions.

M.C.A. Entrance Test :

The Question Paper will be designed to test the capability of the candidates in the following areas:

  • Quantitative Ability
  • Analytical reasoning
  • Logical reasoning
  • Computer awareness

There may also be a few questions on verbal activity, basic Science etc. The Question Paper will have 100 objective type questions and the candidates have to answer all the questions in 2 hours. Each question will have four alternative answers.

The evaluation pattern is that 1 mark will be awarded for each correct answer and 1/4 mark will be deducted for every wrong answer.

M.E./ M.Tech./ M.Arch./ M.Plan (Non-GATE) Entrance Test:

Duration of the Common Entrance Test is 2 hours
The Entrance Test question paper shall consist of three parts.
Part-I and Part-II are compulsory and the candidates have to choose any one subsection out of 14 in Part-III depending upon his specialization.

Part – I Mathematics :

This part will have 30 objective type questions and the candidates should answer all the 30 questions.

Part – II Basic Engineering & Sciences :

This part will have 45 objective type questions. The candidates should answer a minimum of 30 questions. All the correct answers upto a maximum of 30 will be awarded 1 mark each and for all the wrong answers 1/4 mark shall be deducted for each.

Part – III Specializations:

This part will consist of 14 subsections for various disciplines, like Civil, Mechanical, etc.. Each subsection will have 40/45 objective type questions. The candidates have to choose any one subsection depending on his specialization, and to answer a minimum of 40 questions. All the correct answers up to a maximum of 40 will be awarded 1 mark each and for all the wrong answers 1/4 mark shall be deducted for each.
