Central Library of IIT Madras

The Central Library is one of the central support services of IIT Madras which has been awarded ISO 9001 certification by RWTUV of Germany along with other five units of the Institute for the establishment and maintenance of quality library systems & procedures. The Central Library is well equipped with all modern facilities and resources in the form of CD-ROM, On-line databases, microfiche, microfilms, audio video cassettes, books, journals, standards, specifications, theses, reports etc. IIT Madras is deeply engaged to provide a world class library facility for it's users. We have recently shifted to Millennium Library Building, very close to Main Administrative Building. We are currently involved to utilise the networked information resources for providing recent and most comprehensive access to e-journals, e-books, e-patents and other e-references sources to the faculty, students, staff, industries, alumnus under Intranet and Internet environment.

Membership
The Central Library enrols the following types of members: The Detailed information and application forms are available at Membership Counter.
Individual Member		Faculty, Staff and students of IIT Madras.
Industrial Associate		Industrial Organisations who are members of Industrial Associate ship Schemeof IC&SR
Corporate Member		Academic Institutions, Government R&D Centres, Self Financing Colleges and other organisations
Outside Member		Retired Faculty of IIT Madras and Alumni of all IITs
Special Member		Visiting Faculty etc. are enrolled with the approval of the competent authorities of the Institute

General Rules

• All books and journals must be returned on before the due date.
• Books will be reserved if there are no reservations.
• Books are required to be presented physically at the Counter for renewal.
• Members are requested to collect the receipts for the over due paid.
• Members must replace the book if lost with latest edition along with overdue charges.
• The reserved book must be collected within 7 days of the receipt of intimation, failing which the reservation is deemed to be cancelled.
• Members are required to deposit their bags/belongings at the entrance.
• Members are required to produce their Bar-Coded Membership Cards to the Security and Staff as and when asked for.
• Personal books and belongings except for return are not permitted to be brought inside the Library.
